Variable Plug-in Optical Attenuators (Build-out type or Male-Female Variable Optical Attenuator) utilizes air-gap control to achieve the optical attenuation. This "air-gap control" variable attenuator is commonly used as a verification tool and for temporary adjustment of the attenuation value. Different attenuation value can be maintained.  It has a ceramic alignment sleeve that provides a low insertion loss of 0.15dB and can be used on both multimode and singlemode applications. Variable plug-in optical attenuator has included tool provides ability to increase attenuation level to desired dB. Their attenuation range is 0dB to 20dB depending on light source.

LFO provides a wide range of single mode and multimode variable plug-in optical attenuator. They have low return loss and works at both 1310nm and 1550nm wavelength range. ST and FC Fiber connector types with PC or APC polish are available, as well as SC and LC types of attenuators.
