Fiber circulator can separate optical powers that travel in opposite directions in a single fiber.

It act as signal routers, transmitting light from an input fiber to an output fiber, but directing light that returns along that output fiber to a third port. Fiber circulator perform a similar function as an optical isolator, protecting the input fiber from return power, but also allowing the rejected light to be employed.

Application of fiber circulator


Fiber circulator is a necessary component in the fiber optic network to direct an optical light signal from one port to another port sequentially in only one direction. Typical working wavelength for fiber circulator is at 1310nm or 1550nm. They are used in dispersion compensation devices and in add/drop passive WDM, Mux/Demux module.

Structure of Fiber circulator 

The construction of the fiber circulator consists of a number of walk-off polarizer’s, half-wave plates and Faraday rotators, Typical fiber circulators include 3-port type, 4-port type and 6-port type. Passing all the intermediate ports in sequence. Optical light transmitted from any of the port in such circulators can be redirected to any other port.

 

LFO provides 1310m, 1550m, 1585nm and C and L-band 1x2 (3 ports) fiber Circulator, we also provide 1310nm and 1550nm 2x2 (four Ports) Fiber Circulator. Our polarization independent (insensitive) fiber circulator utilizes proprietary design and metal bounding micro optics packaging.
